Art Appreciation Workshop
Beginning with a brief history of art from the Renaissance to the present day, participants were given insights into dominant themes and subject matters in paintings as well as the key components that make a good painting. Using real paintings as examples participants were guided through what to look out for in the appreciation of a painting as well as the way they could can discuss it further in the light of art history and artistic themes.
Participants found themselves asking questions like:
• When is it art and not pornography?
• When is a painting considered good or bad?
• Is a work considered abstract just because I can’t understand it?
