| Alcyon is the French translation of Halcyon, a fabled bird, identified with the kingfisher, that was supposed to have had the power to calm the wind and the waves while it nested on the sea during the winter solstice.
During the period when the Halcyon is laying and hatching its eggs, the seas are very calm and weather is fine. Hence the expression "Halcyon days" which is used to describe calm and peaceful; tranquil periods. It is also used to describe prosperous or golden years.
